Since its founding in 1981, the Institute has offered tertiary medical treatment and community health services through its multi-specialty hospital. There are 1200 beds in the hospital overall. The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore, Karnataka, is connected with it. The Medical Council of India has approved it to provide training in undergraduate and graduate programs in various medical and surgical specialties. The Institute is also featured in the World Health Organization's Directory of Medical Schools and is accredited by the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom. The MBBS program accepts 150 students annually, and 95 students can get a PG degree or diploma in various specializations. According to a national ranking, KIMS is placed "number 24 among the 400+ Medical Schools."
It provides services for all primary medical specialties, including dentistry, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, dermatology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, emergency medicine, respiratory medicine, preventive medicine, and forensic post-mortem services. The hospital also provides services for super-specialties such as neurosurgery, oncology, onco surgery, cardiology, nephrology, urology, gastroenterology, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, pediatric surgery, and oncology. It offers pathology, microbiology, biochemistry, and radiology investigational facilities. It satisfies the criteria set forth by the Medical Council of India/National Medical Council for MBBS and Postgraduate medical education. The KIMS Hospital takes part in research initiatives actively. The hospital conducts numerous clinical studies and research projects.
KIMS Hospital & Research Center Facilities:
Hostels for MBBS/MD/MS students: Currently, there are two different hostels, one for boys and one for ladies. In the Banashankari campus of the Institute, there are dorms for boys and girls that can each hold roughly 200 students. The men's and ladies’ Hostels have 83 rooms individually—each nicely furnished room is for two to three people. The dormitory has a meal area with vegetarian and non-vegetarian food options and is appropriately decorated. During short-term stays, parents of visiting students can stay in a guest room in the hostel.
Sports/Gym: The college's health club has a 10-station multi-gym, two treadmills and steppers, and a trained instructor. All KIMS students can access the Health Club from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Canteen: Teachers, students, and staff at KIMS Hospital have access to Sri Nidhi Sagar Hospital Canteen. On the college campus, a brand-new canteen with contemporary amenities has opened.
H3: KIMS Hospital & Research Center Founders and Team
The Vokkaligara Sangha founded the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), which is a part of Bangalore, Karnataka's Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
On September 2, 1979, the Vokkaligara Sangha formally decided to establish a medical college that would open in 1980–1981 and requested approval from the registrar of Bangalore University. The Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital's foundation stone was placed on November 30, 1980, by Shri R Gundu Rao, the Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka, who also announced the allocation of unoccupied land in Banashankari for the construction of college buildings and dormitories.
Following that, Dr. M. Basavaraju, a professor of physiology, was named principal by the Sangha on January 1, 1981, and other staff members followed on March 1. Regular classes began on March 16 of that same year. Since that time, KIMS Day has been celebrated annually on March 16. In the year 2006, the Institute celebrated its silver jubilee. To commemorate the centennial anniversaries of the Vokkaligara Sangha and the Silver Jubilee of KIMS, a magnificent college structure has been constructed at the Banashankari Campus.

Urology: The department offers thorough care for all urological issues, including male infertility, stricture disease, stricture disease, prostate illness, urinary stones, genital tract infections, and andrology.
Cardiology: In 2011, the Department of Cardiology was created. It is a full-fledged department with state-of-the-art facilities and access to all non-invasive and invasive interventional cardiology procedures.
Plastic Surgery: The first Superspecialty department established in KIMS & RC is Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. It has always been at the forefront of handling all types of surgeries connected to trauma, reconstruction, and cosmesis, as well as Microvascular Surgeries, since its founding in 1991.
Nephrology: To better serve KIMS patients, the nephrology department was established in 2014. The department is well-equipped to offer patients services at a reasonable price. They offer outpatient and inpatient dialysis with skilled technicians and staff nurses. They offer super specialist consultation and daily outpatient services at an affordable price.
Pediatric Surgery: Dr. Somshekariah, the first pediatric surgeon in Karnataka to receive a First MCh certification, established the pediatric surgery department at KIMS in 1993. The department has expanded since it first started. The department is fully functional and serves young children who need surgical care.
CSR Activities:

Knee replacement surgery for retired instructors, according to Guruvandanam Liver Foundation was started for patients who cannot afford liver transplant surgery and might receive it for free or at a reduced cost.
The Dialysis Foundation offers low-cost or free care to those in need.
