Hospitals in Mysuru inherited a medical infrastructure that was predominately government-run at the dawn of independence. The Cheluvamba Hospital was founded in the city in 1889. Ayurveda and Unani Hospitals, P.K. Sanatorium, Mysore Medical College, and K.R. Hospital were founded in 1908, 1917, 1924, and 1927, respectively.
