The Palakkad district saw a significant improvement in the health field, with a growth in the number of hospitals in Palakkad. The role of public hospitals, PHCs, and CHCs is impressive in Palakkad. There are four municipalities and 13 blocks in the Palakkad district. The full-time availability of doctors needs to be improved in all PHCs. This causes long lines and decreases the efficacy of treatment. The majority of the High and Middle classes in rural Palakkad favored private medical facilities due to the high standard of care, the doctor's familiarity with the patients, and the facility's close vicinity. Yet, the government hospitals' performance, which enabled them to attain high-level health indices, is credible.
The government sector has nine hospitals in Palakkad, 87 primary health centers, 8 dispensaries, 6 community health centers, and one T.B. Center. The Government Hospitals have 2764 beds in total. Additional 79 private hospitals in Palakkad are operating in the district, totaling 2200 beds. The town of Palakkad has a 60-bed district ayurvedic hospital run by the government. There are also four Taluk hospitals operating, each with 80 beds. The government sector also includes 65 Ayurvedic clinics.
Two hospitals with a combined 60 beds are operating in the private sector. Moreover, the area is home to a large number of Ayurvedic Vaidyasalas. One government hospital with 25 beds serves the Homeo sector, and one private hospital with 20 beds is located in Coyalmannam and Palakkad Town, respectively. In addition, there are 137 homeopathic clinics in the district, both public and private.
