About Tata Memorial Centre

Tata Memorial Centre has provided outstanding patient care, top-notch training, and ground-breaking cancer research for more than 75 years, making it one of the world's oldest and largest cancer centers. Tata Memorial Centre's foremost priority is providing compassionate patient care. Eleven Disease Management Groups (or multidisciplinary teams) work together to break down departmental barriers and give each patient the best possible care. By utilizing the vast knowledge and skills of diverse specialists, this emphasis on teamwork offers patients evidence-based yet personalized care that is suited not only to cancer but also to the patient's particular physical, mental, and psychosocial needs.

World experts in basic, translational, epidemiologic, and clinical cancer research work at the Tata Memorial Centre. Research findings to comprehend cancer biology, extensive community-based screening trials for common cancers, cohort studies, neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapy, perioperative interventions, surgical practices, and drug repurposing to better understand the patient journey part of the research at TMC. The study focuses on outcomes important to patients, such as survival and quality of life, i.e., living longer or better.

Tata Memorial Center Kharghar Founders:

On February 28, 1941, the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust gave the Tata Memorial Hospital its initial commission as a facility of lasting worth and a responsibility to the Indian people.

A revolutionary organization for basic research, the Indian Cancer Research Centre, also known as the Cancer Research Institute, was established in 1952. (CRI). The Ministry of Health took control of the Tata Memorial Hospital in 1957. The subsequent significant development was the Department of Atomic Energy receiving administrative authority from the Tata Memorial Centre (Tata Memorial Hospital & Cancer Research Center) in 1962. In 1966, the Tata Memorial Hospital and Cancer Research Institute united to form the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), a prime example of private philanthropy enhanced by public funding and with the mission of providing service, education, and cancer research.

Tata Memorial Center Kharghar Departments:

Department of Anesthesia: The Department of Anaesthesia includes the Anaesthesia Service, the Intensive Care Unit, and the Pain Service, all run by more than 40 residents, including postgraduate students and 15 consultant anesthetists. This involvement bolsters their conviction that the duty of anesthetic administration includes providing patient care during the perioperative period. The Department offers postgraduate diploma (D.A.) and degree (M.D.) programs in anesthesia that are approved by MCI and are affiliated with the Homi Bhabha National Institute (Deemed University). For the courses mentioned above, seven employees are recognized as teachers.

Intensive Care Unit: The intensive care unit has a critical care area with 11 beds and a recovery room/step-down unit with 22 beds. A consultant and junior medical professionals are in the facility around the clock. Several department experts with specialized training in intensive care at various institutions abroad rotate through the ICU every month. The unit seeks to offer critically ill cancer patients excellent intensive care.

Patients include seriously unwell surgical patients, people with acute illnesses, people with co-occurring disorders, and those with hematological malignancies, neutropenia, and problems from chemotherapy. Many patients also have acute hemodynamic, respiratory, and metabolic abnormalities. These patients have complex conditions such as sepsis, ARDS, and multi-organ failure.
