One of Tamil Nadu’s biggest eye care hospitals, Aravind Eye Hospital has branches all over the state. In order to accommodate the needs of increasing patients, the Aravind Eye Hospital Salem was established in 2011 as a tertiary Center.
This hospital has modern technology and state of the art equipment, and improves eye care of the residents of Salem, and nearby areas of Namakkal, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri.
Aravind Eye Hospital Salem has 75 beds, and is sprawled over a large area of 42,000 sq ft. The hospital is an accredited teaching institution, and has all speciality services and treatments in eye care. By the end of 2022, the hospital had performed about 23,000 surgeries and catered to approximately 1,90,000 outpatients.
Aravind Eye Hospital Salem has a vision to provide compassionate and top quality eye care to everyone, at affordable rates.
The hospital has a few vision centers in the Salem district as well. The Aravind Eye Hospital vision centers are small facilities that provide eye care to remote communities. These centers are manned by ophthalmic technicians and telemedicine enabled, allowing the patients to consult ophthalmologists at the base hospital.

Aravind Eye Hospital Salem Founders & Team:
Aravind Eye Hospitals was founded by Dr. G. Venkataswamy, or Dr. V. He had a diploma and a master’s degree in Ophthalmology. Dr. V was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and still learned how to hold a scalpel and perform cataract surgery through hard work and grit. In his lifetime, Dr. V has performed over 1 lac successful eye surgeries.
Dr. V was initially involved in government services, and after his retirement, he founded the Aravind Eye Hospital in 1976. The hospital first started off as a 11 bed unit, and has over the years grown into a large chain, with multiple units all over Tamil Nadu.
Dr. V was also the recipient of the Padma Shri Award in 1973 for his efforts in the battle against blindness.

CSR Activities:
Aravind Eye Hospital Salem has performed the following activities and camps over the years:
Aravind Salem started accommodation facilities for the patients who come from free screening camps. The facility was inaugurated by Dr. G. Natchiar, the Director Emeritus of the Aravind Eye Care System, and has facilities to accommodate 300 patients.
So far, Aravind Salem has performed 322 cataract surgeries via camps....
